Question

How do I submit a request for a scan of a UCA Library Resource?

What type of resources can be scanned?

The following resources can be scanned and delivered as a PDF:

  • Chapters or excerpts from books and other items from the Main Stacks or Archives collections.
  • Microforms (a specific date and page number is needed for microfilm requests)
  • Articles from journals in the Bound Journals or Current Periodicals collections.

Please Note: We will inform you if we are unable to scan an item due to format, UCA Library policy, or copyright*. Individual patrons can commonly receive a chapter scan up to 10% of a book in total for a particular book per copyright.

How to submit a scanning request

Option #1: Submitting through the item record

  1. Navigate to the library homepage.
  2. Use the search box on the library homepage and enter the title of the library resource from which you’d like to have a portion scanned (book title, journal title, newspaper title, etc.). Placing quotation marks around the title often assists with searching.
  3. Click on the resource title to open the detailed record.
  4. Within the detailed record near the bottom of the screen, click the Other Libraries Worldwide button which will open a panel from the right-hand side of the screen.
  5. On the slide-out panel at the top right, find and click on the Request via Interlibrary Loan button at the top right of the screen.
  6. You may be prompted to log in with your MyUCA credentials if you have not already done so. Once logged in, the resource information will auto-populate into the request form.
  7. From the dropdown menu, select the Request Type of COPY and complete the form by providing additional information about the request (Title of Chapter/Article, Author of Chapter/Article, page numbers, etc.).
  8. Click the SUBMIT REQUEST button at the bottom of the screen.

Option #2: Manually entering request information

  1. From the library homepage, click My Account located under the Quick Links heading, and log in using your myUCA username and password.
  2. Click on the REQUESTS tab, then CREATE REQUEST at the top right.
  3. Next to CREATE REQUEST, select the resource you are requesting to be scanned (ARTICLE, BOOK, or OTHER).
  4. From the dropdown menu, select the Request Type of COPY.
  5. Enter the necessary information (book/journal/newspaper title, author, Title of Article/Chapter, Author of Article/Chapter, page numbers, etc).
  6. Click SUBMIT REQUEST at the bottom of the screen.

What happens next?

You will be notified via email when requested items are available. The requested pages will be available to view and download as a PDF in your library account's REQUESTS tab. Documents are available to view and download at the right in the Status column; the text notes Click here to view the item. We would recommend that you download the PDF.
